Caregiving is an important, and at times, highly underappreciated role in our society. All of us required a caregiver when we grew up, and many of us will require help again as we age, not to mention any unpredictable needs that come in between. And our caregivers are there for us: our mothers and fathers, grandparents, and sometimes even our children, through thick and thin and sometimes all the way until the end. It is at times a thankless task, but it must be done.
Caregiving can bring so much joy, as you help a child through their milestones, but it can also be so painful. The person you are caring for may not be entirely aware of what is happening, or say things they do not mean. The weight of hurtful words or even just all the work involved can be a heavy burden to bear, especially when you are already giving so much of yourself to care for someone.
This, in essence, is why Inkspirations and the AARP produced Color Your Way Content. Coloring is a great form of self-expression and stress relief. The time you spend quietly filling in spaces can almost feel like a sort of meditation. Let your mind clear of the stress of the day and just take 10, 15, 30 minutes to unwind.
Coupled with the stress-busting act of coloring are quotations, affirmations, and reminders for caregivers to keep you grounded, motivated, and living in the moment. These quotations were compiled by Amy Goyer, a caregiver herself and a national expert on aging and its impact on families.

A Look Inside Inkspirations: Color Your Way Content
Inkspirations: Color Your Way Content is a full-size coloring book illustrated by Judy Clement Wall. I’ve reviewed Wall’s coloring books before, and I love her work! The book includes 31 unique, original illustrations to color. The designs are a mix of mandalas, flowers, animals, objects, and scenes, presented in a whimsical style that is intricate and nicely-patterned without being frustrating to color. There are no impossibly tiny spaces here, and the lines all have a nice forgiving width to them.
As mentioned above, the theme of this book is caregiving; in fact, the full title of the book is Inkspirations for Caregivers: Color Your Way Content When Caring for a Loved One. It was produced by Inkspirations in partnership with the AARP.
The paper is a clean white, heavy stock that only gets a small amount of bleed-through to the back, at least with my water-based Tombow markers. If you use markers, I would advise sticking a sheet of paper underneath the page you are working on so you don’t leave any marks on the pages that follow. Each page is also perforated, so if you prefer you can remove the page from the book to color.
The illustrations are printed on one side of the paper. On the opposite side, the design continues in a minimal way like in other Inkspirations books, and each page opposite has a quotation.
Here are two of my favorite quotations from the book:
Flowers leave some of their fragrance in the hand that bestows them. -Chinese Proverb
I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. -Charles Swindoll

Here are a few sample pages from the book:
Something I love about Judy Clement Wall’s illustration style — and why I am always excited to review something she’s illustrated — is that it is just so organic. Though the lines feel clean and easy to follow, there is a hand-drawn feel to them that makes them addictive. Most mandalas are computer-generated; it’s just a fact with coloring books that that is the quickest and easiest way to make something quickly. But Wall’s mandalas are hand-drawn, imperfect, and a joy to color. Speaking of joy…
I always love her floral illustrations, and there are whole pages of them!
There aren’t too many scenes in this book, but I love that the whimsical style carries through to them, like this mandala sunset over the Grand Canyon:
Another minor thing but not to be understated is that I appreciate that Wall’s illustrations almost always have borders, so there is a clean place to stop the color if you are filling in the background.
Here’s the first page I’ve colored so far:
Like I said above, I just love the whimsical feel of Judy Clement Wall’s artwork! I chose this page of florals because I liked the quote, and all the space I would have for a yellow pop of color through everything!
Check out my speed coloring video below:
As I often do, for this page I used my 96 marker set of Tombow brush pens, which gave me so many color palette options! They feel great on Inkspirations paper, too, and there was just a little bit of bleed-through on the opposite side of the page that didn’t reach the following page.
Overall, I really enjoyed coloring these florals, and I can’t wait to keep coloring the rest of the book — particularly that “Joy” mandala and the Grand Canyon pages shown above! This book would make a thoughtful gift for a friend or relative who is offering up their time and love this holiday season to care for a loved one.
Okay, I’m sold… how do I get a copy?
