Adult Coloring Books Giveaways

Inkspirations Color & Connect Postcard Coloring Book Giveaway

Written by Adrienne

In college, for the first time, I had my own mailbox. For a while, the only piece of mail I ever got was a check from my work study job every two weeks. Definitely worth receiving, but pretty boring! After I lamented to my aunt that I so rarely received mail that it was barely worth checking, she started sending me postcards.

This started a fascination with postcards that has continued to this day. At craft fairs and on trips, I picked up interesting postcards to exchange with my aunt. When I studied abroad, I sent her postcards I bought in the gift shop inside the Eiffel Tower; a cork postcard from Lisbon; postcards of the intricate onion domes topping churches in Kiev. Once a year since college, it’s become sort of a tradition that my dad and I go to a local postcard fair and I always pick up a few of my favorite postcards, vintage linen postcards with nature and city scenes.

Coloring postcards just seem like a natural combination of two of my favorite things, and I am thrilled to share a new postcard coloring book by Inkspirations with you all!

A Look Inside Color and Connect

Inkspirations Color and Connect is a small, portable coloring book containing rip-out postcards to color and send. The paper is stiffer and thicker than typical coloring book paper, and each page is perforated for easy removal.

Inside are 32 postcards to color, including 9 designs with specific greetings, and 23 multipurpose designs without text. The greetings include:

  • Thank You (x2)
  • Greetings
  • Happy Birthday
  • Wish Big
  • Thinking of You
  • Celebrate
  • Sending Healing Thoughts
  • Congrats

The designs without text range in subject matter from mandalas and geometric designs, to animals, tea, flowers, umbrellas, houses, hot air balloons, and more. There really is a design for every occasion here!

The reverse side of each postcard has a line down the center to divide the message (left) from the address (right). There is a spot marked for a stamp, and in the opposite corner, a tiny design element from the other side of the card that can be colored in.

These postcards are 5×7″, which puts them above the maximum size limitations for USPS postcard rate (4.25×6″). This means that if you mail your postcards, you will need to use letter postage or a forever stamp. Since you will already be paying first class postage, you might consider tucking your postcard into an envelope to protect your design, especially if you color it with water-soluble media like markers or gel pens.

Here’s the first postcard I colored from the book:

This card is one of the two Thank You postcards from the book. I opted for a five color, green and pink color scheme that I carried through to the other side.

The paper is thick and I didn’t experience any bleed-through using my water-based Tombow brush pens. This paper is really nice for Tombow pens — the color feels like it goes on so smoothly.

Check out my speed coloring video below:

I do not recommend using alcohol-based markers, like Copic markers, on these postcards. I tested with mine, and they bled straight through to the other side of the page. Usually this wouldn’t matter with single-sided pages, but in this case you really don’t want bleed-through or it will show up on the side of the postcard where you write your message!

The only other minor annoyance I noticed while coloring was that despite the thickness, the page did start to curl a little as I colored with markers. This might not bother you — after all, you can just straighten it out by weighing it down under something heavy for a few days. You can avoid this problem entirely by coloring with a dry medium such as colored pencils.

Here’s the second postcard I colored from the book. I wanted to make sure I colored at least one of the greetings and one of the message-free cards before I did this review!

For this card, I opted for a greater number of colors than the previous one. There are just so many nice flowers in this bouquet! I like the intricate design and the borders, I just wish the postcard’s design was a little more centered within the postcard. Of course, I could just slice off the wide border with my x-acto knife to make it more even, which I will probably do.

Overall, I really enjoyed coloring the postcards from this book. The illustrator did a great job creating artwork that would be possible to color at the scaled down size. Too many postcard coloring books use artwork originally created for a full-size book, and then scale the art down to impossibly tiny proportions. Not true here — it is clear that Ronnie Walter’s illustrations were created to be printed at the 5×7″ size here. There are still some tiny spaces, of course — where would the challenge be without them? — but it is full of much more manageable designs than, say, the Secret Garden postcard book.

Okay, I’m sold… how do I get a copy?
