Inkspirations for Breast Cancer Survivors Review + Giveaway

Written by Adrienne

I think all of us have had our lives touched by a breast cancer diagnosis, in some way or another. My maternal grandmother underwent treatment for a rarer form of breast cancer almost 20 years ago. Treatment left her very weak, but she was able to recover.

Beverly Vote, the creator of this book and founder of Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine, underwent her own rounds of treatment at age 38. After two grueling years of treatment, she finally was cancer-free, and has remained that way to this day, 25 years later.

The book I am going to share with you today was created to empower women going through a similar experience to Beverly and my late grandmother. It is there to offer encouraging words and quotations to anyone overwhelmed by the healing process.

A Look Inside Inkspirations for Breast Cancer Survivors

Inkspirations for Breast Cancer Survivors is a full-size coloring book illustrated by Ann-Margret Hovsepian. The book includes 31 unique, original illustrations to color, presented in a whimsical style that is intricate without being frustrating. Opposite each coloring page is a quotation to inspire those fighting through times of suffering. The illustrations draw inspiration from these quotations and often feature an object or an idea conjured up by the quote.

Here’s one of my favorite quotations from the book:

Sometimes the strength within you is not a big fiery flame for all to see; it is a tiny spark that whispers ever so softly, “you’ve got this, keep going.” -Sarah Learmonth

The cover is thick and glossy, and the pages themselves are quite heavy too. I did see a small amount of bleed-through with my water-based Tombow brush pens. If you use markers, I would advise sticking a sheet of paper underneath the page you are working on so you don’t leave any marks on the pages that follow.

Here are a few sample pages from the book:

This is the page I colored for my review, below:

I love all the whimsical details here!

Lots of fun patterning to color here, and in the book it is opposite one of my favorite quotes, the one I shared above:

Here’s the first page I’ve colored so far:

Like I said above, I love all the whimsical details in Ann-Margret Hovsepian’s artwork, and this hand-drawn mandala is no exception! I started with a bright pink background, because what would be a better match for Breast Cancer Awarenesss Month? I used a limited color palette of just six colors.

Check out my speed coloring video below:

As I often do, for this page I used my 96 marker set of Tombow brush pens, which gave me so many color palette options! They feel great on the paper, too, and there was just a little bit of bleed-through on the opposite side of the page that didn’t reach the following page.

Overall, I really enjoyed coloring in this book! I love Ann-Margret’s whimsical illustrations and I found it meditative to color and conjure up memories of my grandmother. This book would make a great gift for a friend, parent, or other relative who is fighting or has defeated breast cancer. In fact, any of the prizes would also make an amazing gift!

Okay, I’m sold… how do I get a copy?

If the sample pages I showed above look appealing to you, I definitely encourage you go pick up your own copy on Amazon! If you like the whimsical style of this book, you may also enjoy Inkspirations’ earlier book, The Power of Positive Inking, illustrated by Judy Clement Wall.
